1) Do you guys recommend HobbySearch? Where else might I get them? I googled and found some other places but hobbysearch seems to be the cheapest for the most part.
2)How does pre-ordering work? Do I have to pay to preorder?
3)Also based on your past experience, how much do you think the figures would weigh? So I can guess at the shipping cost. They're both 1/7 scale and 270mm in height. A ballpark number would be fine.
This might not be necessary but I wanna check anyway. Is this site good?

It's cheaper than the other places I've found. But they don't get it until march. I don't know if I wanna wait that long.

I personally recommend Nanoha Exceed mode (I'm biaised because I preorder it along Fate Sonic Form figure)
1)I usually go to HLJ http://www.hlj.com they're safe, I've ordered lots of gunplas and figures, without any problem, for more than two years.
2)The price are virtually the same, and for preorder, they charge only when it's ready to be shipped, you can buy by credit card or paypal.
3)From my experience, as I already ordered some bigger and heavier figures (a 1/48 VF1-S Valkyrie Roy Fokker version, more than 2.5kg, and another time a 1/60 Perfect Grade Strike Gundam, 3.5kg), I'd say with the weight of the package included, approximately 2kg minimum for the first one, 1.5kg for the second.
I'd recommend strongly EMS shipping (faster (5-15 days instead of 7-45 days with normal shipping, depends from where you live) and with this kind of items, cheaper than normal shipping, and more importantly, you can track your order), but with the price of the figure, they could ship it only on EMS (I don't include customs taxs, depend of your country), I estimate shipping around 2500-5000 yens (depends on the figure you choose in the end).
The package is made so the items arrived safe and sound, I never have a problem.
For the last link you provided, the figures is a litle bit cheaper at HLJ and available in January, but you can't preorder until November 2th.

I wish I could get the Fate sonic form but the places I checked, the reservations were closed on her. I might just get both Nanohas as I should have enough to buy the 1st movie version by January.
Hobby Link looks good. About the same price as Hobby Search. Since you vouch for them, I might get it from there. And it'll definitely help if I don't have to pay until it's shipped.
So I guess I can expect to pay as much as $50 for shipping. Fair enough.
I think I'll just get the figure in January. I'm willing to pay the extra amount.

I was lucky for the Fate figure, I have preordered it in March 30th as soon as it was available to preorder, and less than a month after, reservations were out, with the Alter figure it's pretty much "grab it while it's not even in the oven", or waiting 1-2 year for them to make new ones.
As I say, you pay when they ship it (they send you a mail when you have to pay, even if you pay via paypal, contrary of other site I know (mostly for games import), where if you pay with paypal, you have to pay at the moment you order, tha't why I like HLJ.
At the time, I was searching for a 1/48 Valkyrie from Macross and a MG Freedom Gundam, and I followed the recommandations in the forum of one the French Gundam community (it's a real pain to find this kind of goodies when you live in Europe, I swear ! When a shop have something, in France, it's always the double of the original price !!!), since then, I made approximatively 25 orders with them since 2005, and never had any problem.
I don't think I have paid much than 30-40 euros in shipping prices, in EMS, so considering the change rate, approximatively 50-55$ (I'm kinda paranoid with international shipping, I'm always afraid it could be lost).
And Alter are the best, most of my figures are Alter ones, including young Nanoha and young Fate (take much place with her floating cloak, but so badass with it and her Zamber...).
Goodsmile are good, particularly their Excellent Model series, I have a Sheryl Nome figure from this series, a must have for all Macross Frontier fans (and Macross fans also), Alter had given them a hand for its creation.
Mmmh, after seeing the photo of the figure, maybe I'll preorder young Nanoha, the figure look much better than the one I have, much more badass, and better, more realistic hair, and maybe HLJ will make their "early bird" 5% promotion for preordering (not always, but they do it often).

Both of them are yes damn expensive but both of them are worth collecting. if u still wanna decide between both i would recommend young nanoha as she is holding the newest design but nanoha-mama vers has the buster around her making it worth purchasing. so its all down to you~ i'm planning to get both as well as the Fate's Sonic Form.
Yeah, gonna get both since young nanoha doesn't come out for awhile, I'll have time to build up my funds. Wish I could get Fate. Probably for the best that I don't get her, since that would drain my money too much. But there are a lot of figures coming out in october. The nanoha exceed, fate sonic, that awesome 1/4 fate bikini that i'm really tempted to get. Anyone know why? Well the obvious reason is the movie coming out but still, that's a lot of stuff all at once.

Well, it's done. I put in the pre-order. There's no turning back now(Well technically I can cancel it but I'm not gonna). In the end I decided to get it from hobby search to save a few bucks and make future use of their point system. I'll use the points I get on this purchase to save some more on the movie figure purchase. I don't have to pay until they ship it so that's good news for me. When you guys get your figures, can you share pics of them? I wanna see fate and nanoha together since I couldn't get fate myself.

I'm also fine by this, I can buy the Christmas Gifts for my little cousins, very good quality plushies tend to disappear quickly (and cost an arm and a leg), and the shops are already prepared for Christmas (it surprise me every year they release all the toys this soon).
