I think the ending outright states that a phallic object is, while nice, also completely unnecessary.

Mh... it's true that I prefer NanoFate adult doujins to be sweet and tender without any sort of toys or fetishes, but I must agree with Likewise.
Also, Nanoha and Fate are young and unexperienced in this doujin, maybe they haven't been together long enough to learn how to do things right. And about the "phallic objects", I think they don't really imply anything in favor or against lesbian relationships, being a lesbian is being a female that likes other females and not males, it's not about someone that doesn't get pleasure from "phallic objects", fingers included.
Somehow I always feel NanoFate sex with toys is out of sync with their psychology.
Nanoha loves to gived close physical contact, IMHO giving it is actually the high for her. And Fate, because of her abusive past, is a giant sponge for intimate physical contact. So I think sex for them is primarily composed of a LOT of naked hugging and kissing and trying to keep as much of their bodies in contact as phyisics and anatomy will allow. Skin on skin contact would be HUGE in their relationship, toys almost seem like cock blocking, or cunt blocking in this case, something artificial wedging in between.
