Yeah, they are doing too much. I say they are taking a risk with that large a cast. Not wanting to repeat myself I will just point to their latest works and how the large number of characters didn't exactly help matters.

Also: Rinne, Fuuka and Einhard's Friend are now making the announcements? Nanoha, Fate and Hayate weren't even mention in their show!

My thinking when I saw those three was, stop RUINING the trailer for me and Go the F away.

With Vivid Strike! and the Vivid party ending not a long ago I can see why they used Rinne and Fuuka, but I think it's a bit hilarious that they had Yumina as the third narrator for the commercial over Vivio or Einhart. With all the jokes about Yumina stealing Einhart from Vivio, soon she may want to move to something bigger and steal the complete show.

Don't wanna say I called the Materials since to be honest even I thought of it as just wishful thinking combined with educated guess. But the fact that Yuri's tagging along makes things different. Don't get me wrong, I love Yuri as much as I love the Materials but we're talking levels of haxx and story development that shouldn't be doable even in 1.5 movies even rushing Kyrie and Amita's inevitable conflict sequence. Just speculation, but the only way I see this working out is after ending part 1 with sisters made up, the Materials appear anyways and spend part 2 mirror matching the aces who partner up with a Wolkenritter as the game's routes happen simultaneously, shifting from three different battlefields through most of the film and preventing any character development on the Materials themselves beyond less casual Wolkenritter ver 2.0...

I do really hope I'm wrong though and that the staff can find a way to either extend to three movies or budget screen time wisely...but I really do wonder if they're including Materials and Yuri...why create Iris at all? Surely giving the game's the movie treatment would have guaranteed profits without reworking the sisters???

Another new trailer:

Materials confirmed. The action is looking good, and Fate is handsome in that end poster.

Ohhh hell yeah. I've been waiting a very long time to see the Materials, especially Seikou/Stern get a proper screen debut.

Apparently according to the blurbs for the Materials they were summoned or something from pages of the Book of Night Sky.

Unless I messed something up these are the blurbs translated:
Dearche:
夜天の書のページから呼び起こされた「王の魂」が具現化した姿。
具現化の際、八神はやての容姿と魔力資質を参照している。
シュテル・レヴィの二人を臣下として従え、自らの目的のために戦う。
Materialization of "Soul of a King/Kingly Spirit", awakened from a page of the Book of the Night sky.
At the time of materialization she referenced (probably used) the physical appearance and mana capacity (or magical ability/talent?) of Yagami Hayate.
Stern and Levi follow her as her retainers and fight for the sake of their own goals.

エルシニアクロイツ
ディアーチェの杖。シュベルトクロイツをベースに、独自のアレンジが施されている。
Yersenia Kreuz
Dearche's staff. It's based on Schwertkreuz, but was given it's own arrangement.

ユーリ
物語の鍵となる存在。
Yuri:
The key being of the story. OR The one that will become the key of the story.

シュテル
夜天の書のページから呼び起こされた「魂」が具現化した姿。
具現化の際、高町なのはの容姿と魔力資質を参照している。
ディアーチェを「王」と仰ぎ、その右腕として働く。 炎の魔力を扱う。
Stern:
Materialization of a "Spirit", awakened from a page of the Book of the Night Sky.
At the time of materialization she referenced (probably used) the physical appearance and mana capacity (or magical ability/talent?) of Takamachi Nanoha.
She is looking up at Dearche as her King and is her right hand. She wields the magic of fire.

ルシフェリオン
シュテルの杖。火力に特化したアレンジが施されている。
Luciferion:
Stern's staff. Given a specialization in FIREpower (both literally and figuratively) .

Levi:
Materialization of a "Spirit", awakened from a page of the Book of the Night Sky.
At the time of materialization she referenced (probably used) the physical appearance and mana capacity (or magical ability/talent?) of Fate T. Harlown.
She obeys the instruction and orders of just two persons, Dearche her King and Stern her "best friend" who she adores/idolizes.
Uses Lightning Magic.

バルニフィカス
レヴィの斧。多彩な変形機能や魔力刃生成機能など、打撃・斬撃武器として強力な性能を誇る。
Vulnificus
Levi's AXE!.
It posseses, among others, the ability to change into various forms and generate the magical blade. It boasts itself as a powerful striking/slashing weapon.

---------------------------------------------

Let me add myself to those that are getting kinda Wolkenritter 2.0 vibe from the Materials. They were even summoned from the data in the book like the Protection Knights.
Their personalities, without knowing what they are saying in the trailer seem to be like they were in BoA, which is not my favorite version of the Materials.

Frankly the only reason I can see Eris as working if it turns out that she is the one manipulating Kyrie. After all during the Material resurrection scene she is standing in front of them and Kyrie is well back as if she is summoning them.

Potential plot IMO:
Kyrie under urging by Eris comes to Earth to get the Unbreakable Dark (or whatever they decide to name it) that was in BoD. She has some success and gets a drop on Hayate and steals some pages of the Book, but Amita's arival reverses things. TO even the odds Eris suggest summoning the Materials to help them since their primary function (in GoD) is locating and aquiring of the Unbreakable Dark. This backfires on them as Materials take off on their own chasing their own, or better to say Dearche's, desires.
Likely the showdown with Yuri and dealing with the Materials would be the toppic of the second movie?

I don't like that they were summoned from a book that doesn't share anything with BoD apart form the name, and also there being remains of BoD invalidates Reinforce's sacrifice IMO.

Also as I said for the Materials, and so with Kyrie and Amita, I don't excatly like the dirrection they are taking them personality wise. Amita should be ditzy responsible brash
(Everything can be solved with FIGHTING SPIRIT!) older sister, while Kyrie is a sly snake, but both are working on the same goal. So far we have seen Amita be super serious, and Kyrie a woobie.

I'm going to take back most of everything negative I said. Putting Materials with Iris in the first movie gives both good counter to Nanoha's allies and time to develop from their Aces selves to Gears personalities. Although it feels kind of wrong hearing Dearche somberly admit to not knowing where they "are going to go that's something we don't know yet" while Stern's the one going on about how she "wants great power to achieve their desire like a flame" and Levi sounds neither murderous nor hammy...I still await to see how they'll do Yuri proper though...

And just a side note...now while my knowledge of motorcycles may come predominantly from Bakuon!! Should Vita even be able dismount from the bike on her own?

Edit: My bad, on further rewatch I realized it was Amita on the bike...no more Vita is short joke potential...

Well, well… seems that my previous comments were right on target with the character count. We now have: Nanoha, Hayate and Fate on one end, the Wolkenritter in another, Kyrie and her crew plus the Materials.

Now, the cynic in me (or rather the cynic that is me) would say this is just a cheap ploy to get as much merchandise as possible and on top of selling us new Aces stuff we now have new Materials as well. So it all comes down to one thing: Marketing!

I really take no joy on trashing Nanoha related stuff, and I am going to wait and see the movie to give a final judgement, but this is not filling me with hope. Looking forward to be proof wrong

I don't think it's about merchandising. I think they are more trying to capitalize on one new thing that fans seemingly like, and that is the characters form GoD.

Except from what I have seen so far, while they look like them they don't behave like them. Well they don't sound like them, since I can't understand what is being said in the commercial.

Well Stern wanting power is in character. But it's in character mostly if she is at first weaker than Nanoha so she wants to be better so she can "fight Nanoha forever" (paraphrased her words from GoD) as an equal. Also despite being the least emotional of the Materials, she is kind and polite to a fualt. Not the vibe I was getting.

Then again I'm making castles, likely on nothing, based on seconds of a trailer.

Still it's my great fear that they will recycle the looks and the idea of Amita, Kyrie and the Materials and strip out the fun parts (how they interact with the "Originals") and trun them into bunch of edgelordy try hards.

These people make their money on the tons of stuff they have put Nanoha and company's names and faces on. So I am sure they will bank on making slightly different versions of the character's to sell us.

On a side note... why did the Materials appear without clothes? I mean, this franchise and loli cheesecake is not new but I feel they are getting cheaper and cheaper. Even the Wolkenritter were summon with clothes on.

Just my two cents, but I suspect you just answered your own question: cheapening out. Not on money per say but rather on time. While the Wolkenritter all came with matching basic uniforms, they varied significantly in height and build and unless you wanted to see a naked Zaffy for every naked Signum...

Meanwhile, while Materials vary ever so slightly in build, not only can the staff skip certain tedious angles but the coloring process is made significantly easier without excessive lines, and they can capitalize off the loli cheesecake bait. Basically killing two financial birds with one very cheap stone.

And not gonna lie, I'd probably be part of the problem and one of those who'd buy a set of Material + Yuri figures in a heartbeat. But I'm just more surprised they never retooled/recolored the A's merch with the release of the PSP games, or just outright palette swapped the movie 2nd designs for the Reflection Materials.

If they wanted to just do the palette swap, they could have kept their style from the game where they WERE just palette swap with tiny details that are different (Levi's hair tips are black, Stern doesn't have the hair in tails etc.), but here they made the effort to make Material's styles different from their originals.

Point taken~ I appreciate the efforts taken. Ironically though, in my opinion, aside from Stern's epic gauntlet, as we have yet to see Raising Heart in action nor Nanoha without the Strike Cannon I'd argue Stern with her more minimalist Barrier Jacket, use of Luciferion, and lack of verniers actually looks more like the natural progression of OG Nanoha's design than Nanoha herself.

More ViVid casting... oh well. Movie is looking fine still, but I shall remain weary until this franchise can make it up for... less than stellar performance

Looks like the Strike Cannon's slightly increased Nanoha's original awkwardness at melee, I'm still curious why Raising Heart is nowhere to be found, even as stand alone flight mode, maybe under repair since movie 2nd?

And after this trailer I'm convinced that Yumina's Seitai Therapy magic is actually a front, and that her real magic is the power to embezzle screen time, I can think of no better explanation as to why Vivio's not in this one a la Banquet of Kings.

This explains the all the Yumina attention in the 2 TV commercials:

Is like using the cast of Battlefiel Earth to announce the next Star Wars movie. I kind of see the connection but is not all there

So as to not upload too many pictures to the galleries, I instead decided to try linking these pictures from Zerochan.

And, perhaps not necessary, but our three main heroines, interestingly these are of lesser quality:

And may as well add Amitie and Kyrie:

Do speak up if the links don't work, Zerochan can at times be a bit peculiar about who can and can't view pictures, mostly regarding whether or not one has an account and is logged in.

Anyways, I like the designs of the Materials and Aces, the new style does still take some getting used to for me, at times the hair still looks awkward to me. Though out of these I find Amitie and Kyrie most awkward looking.

The images load fine, but they're all from the official website: http://nanoha.com/character_shtel.html

Still a good backup, they'll change the official website eventually and delete all the current images.

Ahhhhh nooo way. So weird tho as the Nanoha series is pretty obscure internationally. Did wish it would screen elsewhere and here in the UK

I am use to never seeing anything good screen here but this should be fun regardless.

Fingers cross so it becomes a good entrance for the franchise

So it's a regular commercial this time, it's good to have Fate narrating it.
