Hey everyone, I've done a few quick polls of chat and tried to get everyone I could (and I think the end vote was 6 yea, 2 nea, 3 abstaining). So here it is: A thread to discuss how the RP in Midoriya Cafe is going, and ask questions about the entire chat and things.

So, Sorry for waiting to start this but I wanted something special to start this thread off with, and that I now do have. For the first act of this thread, I wish to nominate Lae (Aka Laevatien/Mini-Signum) and Rae (Lyrical Reanna on the forums here) as general GMs of chat. As a veteran of many RPGs, they essentially do all of the same responsibilities of a regular GM in this type of RP environment, except maybe enforce character approval beforehand, but that's not in the rules of chat here), and have done so essentially since before anyone else joined in to chat RP. However, it is very unfair and difficult to ask them to do this without the similar power of a GM, as it has tied up their characters., interfered with plotlines, and deprived from them a lot of enjoyment. As such, there are the powers I propose.

-Ability to control NPCs and other units
-Ability to arbitrate conflicts between other players
-Ability to resolve attacks and dodges in combat if the combattants are not sufficiently self-regulating (IE, one combatant is godmoding or dodging everything)
-Ability to dictate the consequences of players actions if they are doing an insufficient (or too harsh) job of doing it themselves
-Ability to require justification before an action is given through, and if insufficient justification is given (or as a worst-case resort for almost everything), to retcon or veto a chat message or series of chat messages.

By accepting this position, a GM is OBLIGED to act responsibly; if you think this is not happening, please join the room 'RP Complaints' so that we can review such decisions that one deems needs reviewing (as conficts always occur).

The current votes fall as follows: Yea 3 (Seikou, Juno, and myself), Nay 1 (Gregar) Abstain 1 (Bardiche)

Thus ends my nomination.

However, I know some of you will question whether we really need a GM, and will think this is an attempt by me to gain more control over chat, or some other such thing. However, I wish to personally state that I DO NOT wish to be a GM myself, nor do I think chat would reach a fovorable consensus about such a proposition. However, Rae and Lae have already been doing this for months effectively, and I have always deferred to them (as really, this is THEIR RP, were just guests). Furthermore, my experience is usually distorted by my reputation for having come from pen and paper RPGs with dice and systems and all kinds of other things that we don't bother with, whereas I have also had great breadth of experience in freeform RPGs, all save one where one or more players were appointed as GM (I should note that I've played about 5 RPGs where there have just been me and one other player, and as I'm sure is redundant because we can all do math, five is greater than one). That one required great maturity between me and the other player, and it is matyrity I doubt I myself could maintain over the timespan I play in chat RP, and I am sure that many people can think of at least one person in chat who is immature to have all they say considered valid; I am probably that for at least two people. As sudh, I ask that you consider this.

Now, to put something else up relevamt: Saber Lily is going around the houses and redecorating. Expect most of the furniture to not be where you are used to it being.

Ya know...

A lot of serious threads about chat have gone up. Insert whysoserious.jpg here.

Did the chat go to hell since I was banned from it or something? I've always wondered about the call for more rules and such since from my short time in the chatrooms, every thing seemed to run just fine ^^;;

Eh, having a codified system so everyone knows what's what isn't bad though. It would certainly make certain objectives more easier to complete for starters... I know I wouldn't mind~~ (Although other such and such things would become this and that...)

...HOLY CRAP, LAE AND RAE ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE?! Absolutely shocked!

...I should of read the names in the chat more closely, probably. I most likely just read their names as the same thing or something >_>;;

Eh heh heh, honestly? I don't give a damn~ I'm not being mean or anything, it's just that such rules never tend to apply to me ^^;; I mean, with all the self RP I used to do it's not like I was bothering any one X3 (granted, this is mainly because the room is empty at the time...)

...Well, it also doesn't bother me since I'm not supposed to go to the chat rooms anyway! XD I'm interested in the results though~

So then, non-boxes! I imagine that most people will go "eh, too much work" and drop the subject but I have a certain stake in the results so I'm interested in seeing what the outcome will be. Be sure to tell me, yeah?

I don't think anyone has been banned from the chat in more than a year...

This really does not need serious discussion, but I'll humour it -_-
We're here for RP fun, not all these ridiculous rules!! Whatever happened to fun? You really don't need a figurehead or a entitled 'GM' for something as this RP, if it were much larger, with 20 people, I would say fair play. However, less then a handful of us play, so a 'GM' Really isn't needed.
Plus, I would not want anyone moving my characters around at will, I think that would throw out anyones own view on a character.
On the basis that this thing is ridiculous, I say 'Nay'.
Again, what happened to fun?? DX

It's not against the rules to have fun in chat. It's just that sometimes what's "fun" can go into a whole other level than what people originally intended. And there has been incidents as where a GM was needed and there was none present.

Main point: GMs are not there to put limits on fun but rather they try to keep it fun.

And... from what I'm hearing here... this means I need to be active on a daily basis again(which I'll try to do). In any case, if anyone needs me I'm reachable via e-mail if I need to be in chat ASAP.

What's a GM?
Also, I wonder what "taking fun to a whole nother level" interpets

Hmm, very good point about the fun :3
I think we'd have to see whether or not that having a GM will limit or increase fun, but I suppose it'll be okay to try out.
I can also see the point where they are needed, but those incidents don't really happen much o.O
I just think it's a bit odd to go about this GM thing now, Laevatein and Rae have run the RP plot for ages, with great success!

I am sorry that I must voice my opinion as such, I've already talked to Bard about this in chat. But so, some clarifications:

1) GMS WILL ONLY USE THEIR POWER IN EXTREME SITUATIONS. THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THIS SHOULD IN NO WAY EFFECT PEOPLES FUN. WHAT IT IS FOR ARE THE TIMES WE GET INTO THE BIG HUGE ARGUMENTS IN CHAT.They will not use these powers 'at will,' they will use these powers as a last resort when things get out of hand. These rules won't matter for 98% of what we do, just those 2% of times that.... get way out of hand.

Furthermore, my apologies for the allcaps, but it is just.... several of the above statements feel just wrong to me. I mean, these aren't rules--We already have rules. This is just giving someone power to enforce said rules.

Even furthermore, I'm sorry if anyone thinks this is part of a personal crusade to shape chat or some other such nonsense. Why I propose this comes from a sense of responsibility to fellow players to try to make RP more fun. I really don't want to impinge on anyones fun, but instead wish to solve the portions of rage hate without having to involve others who would have to give something of themselves up to come and solve our problems. Because that, to me, is wrong on a moral and ethical level, which in my book always preceeds whether or not something is 'fun.'

I can accept this, GMs to enforce rules are good, perhaps it could be discussed with Haru to give them some actual powers in chat, I can see Laevatein using it properly for example.

Mostly state this because the chat mods we had, Sigurd and Alicia, have long since quit, both drop in from time to time, yes, but it's not often enough to be effective.

I wonder how the GM's will gain their powers? If you're going to be enough of an ass to derail the chat, you're going to be enough of an ass to just ignore someone with a shiny badge. What I'm saying is that before discussing whether to have GM's, are we even capable of having any?

So basically, unless these GM's have actual powers then the whole point is moot in my opinion. I think having a GM is just fine but I see a bunch of logistical problems with it >_>;;

I imagine that it would also be hard to find someone to be online long enough to be an effective GM while having enough respect/authority and power to keep everyone in line while being impartial as well.

I wonder how they'd be chosen? Voting, I suppose? Although we need something that keeps the GM's in line as well, like some kind of chat constitution or something.

And now about my ban:

Spoiler:

A lot of people seem surprised that I've left the chat. I told people and asked them to pass it on so I don't know why it comes as a shock, where do you think I've been this whole time? ^^;;

...Who was it that I told again? Whoever it was, they did a bad job of communicating my decision to self-ban myself from the chat.

Yep, SELF-ban. Context is everything, huh? =_=;;;

Since the message hasn't spread, I'll say it here and now to clear things out.

I Sing Love'd myself.

...What's with that look? That didn't explain things? Lemme make it more clear then.

One day I was bored so I decided to challenge the entire chat. This challenge came in the form of four plans I set out: Operation Encore, Operation Final Applause, Operation Grand Finale and Operation Imaginary Space.

I've always played by my own rules and I mean this is in the literal "I make up rules and I follow them" sense. Each of these plans contained a list of rules and conditions that would dictate what would happen to me.

Grand Finale is the plan that caused me to ban myself from the chat.

Encore sets out the conditions that must be met before I even consider coming back.

Final Applause is the set of rules and conditions that, when completed, makes my self ban permanent and closes all possibilities of returning to the chat.

Imaginary Space is the one where, if it is completed, I leave the entire site and don't come back.

It just so happened that Operation Grand Finale was completed so I self-banned myself. And now I keep an eye on the site while writing my crack-fics, making a mental note of what happens and ticking them off my checklist to see what happens next. It's certainly exciting, even I don't know where I'll end up since it's pretty tied~~!

And that's it. Challenging the chat to Operation Grand Finale was incredibly easy. I won and as promised I destroyed my box civilizations and left the chat, I'm a box of my word after all.

How come people are surprised? After all, my little game was agreed to and played by everyone. Did you all forget? Ah well, it's fine. I'm leaving my fate in the hands of the people here, let's see if I get kicked out or not~

Well, to answer your questions that I can answer

1) we already have rules, so yeah, its hard to self-regulate for people who would totally ignore them anyways and not listen to others. However, by making the GM someone the whole chat has a lot of respect for, and who would be listened to. Namely, Rae and Lae, because between the two I don't think that there is one person who hates both of them.

2) Rae and Lae are on most of the time. When they're not, we tend not to have problems, or the problem people don't go offline until one of them comes online.

3) That's the reason I have two of them; they can balance each other out. I would love someone diametrically opposed to them, like Bard is to me, but there really isn't one for either of them two.

Also OH MY GOD PLEASE COME TO MY HS RPG. You would fit in so well.

Hm, how many Gm's are you proposing to have? Just Lae and Rae? It'd be nice if we could get an odd number of GM's so that if a dispute between them breaks out, they could just vote on it.

...Maybe I'm being to overcautious though, I'm always a bit paranoid when I see someone suddenly gain a power boost >_>;;

And now for something completely different.

I'm certainly interested in joining that RP, sounds fun~!

...But ridiculous self-applied rules are rules after all. I've promised myself I'm going to sit here until one of my needlessly complicated plans come into effect and damn it, I am going to SIT HERE UNTIL THAT HAPPENS!

(Consults checklist)

Shouldn't be kept waiting long though, something should happen soon...~~

I have an idea, Natty.

Give no shits!

and always remember...

OPERATION DESERT TORNADO WILL BE PUT INTO EFFECT SOON.

Also, never go full Baylife. You can go half-Baylife or 3/4s Baylife, but NEVER, and I mean never, go full Baylife.

(Nods slowly)

I have no idea what you are trying to say

(continues nodding)

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say this is the response you're looking for:

(fiddles around with a pen and paper)

It's too bad I can't find the scene before this though...

[edit]

No wait, I found it.

...Oh hey.

I've satisfied the conditions for winning one of my games.

Well then, since I've Sing Love'd myself so far, why not continue this game into Extra mode? Final stage, go! I'll be watching the chat for a bit but I won't actually participate. Go about your business, non-boxes~

I'm leaving the chat.

Instant win condition for Final Applause invoked. Permanent self ban in place.

Now I just have to sit here and see how long Imaginary Space will take, when it does I'll leave the entire site as well.

Someone has given me the go. The only thing is,

I suggested that RPs should be scheduled, and you counter me that RPs shouldn't be monitored, and here you are applying as a mod.

Nice try. Nice try.

Scheduling is too organized, a person to enforce rules and weed out trouble makers, however, is good.

Incorrect. I am nominating TWO OTHERS as mods, and nullifying myself from such a position, because even if I did want to (which, hell, I don't have time to do), no one would want me to.

No need to enforce, maybe 1 or 2 'Operators' to keep the room fun, and the 'Founder' of the site have all the power.

Chances are, voting will be done since I've yet to see any major harm to the channel. But do note:

The only problems i've faced is confusion so There is no need to leave or self-ban or whatever. Just smile and go along
